Mark Gilligan hit the trails up in Tahoe and was able to keep the competition at bay and win the 50 miler while also grabbing the 2009 State of Nevada 50 mile championhip in the process.  A big congrats to Mark and best of luck in Chamonix.

national 100m championships

A huge congratulations to Rob and Bree for their amazing performances at the 100 mile national Championship race. Both seemed to have as much hardware as Michael Phelps at the awards ceremony yesterday. Rob is the new 'Masters 100 mile national champion' and Bree is the 'Womens 100 mile national champion". Both Bree and Rob put the hurt on the competition early on and remained strong throughout the race.

A big congrats to our Ultra Racing Team on their fantastic finish at Western States

* Mark Lantz 18:45 and a 9th place finish!
* Victor Ballesteros 18:47 and an 11th place finish!
* Rena Schumann 28:23 and a 23rd place finish!

Race recap:

"Well, the team just completed the Boston Marathon of the Ultra World - The Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run... A very hot year, the attrition rate was "insane". From what I heard 188 people dropped, mostly due to heat exhaustion. Victor Ballesteros in his 100 Mile Debut placed 12th overall, 18 hours 47 minutes, and, the best part is he Won the Montrail Ultra Cup $2500.00 purse". Amazing! Mark Lantz placed 9th male in 18 hours 45 minutes and for next year he will wear the M9 number and he has an automatic entry into the race. Mark got 3rd overall at the Montrail Ultra Cup -$500.00 purse. Awesome! We also had Rena Shuman who finished her 8th Western States 100 and placed 23rd Female.

We had alot of team support out there, Mark Gilligan paced Victor Ballesteros, and according to Mark he now has a Personal Record for a 50k as Victor ripped up the last 30 miles of the course. Mark Murray paced Mark Lantz and from what I heard got a great workout. Kate and Rob Evans were out on the course supporting the runners...."
